Paul Mitchell Schools Rock the Vote!by Paul Mitchell Schools on 10/10/2008
Future Professionals from Paul Mitchell The School in Orlando and Utah, and from the Lab – A Paul Mitchell Partner School in Ewing, New Jersey, held Rock the Vote events to encourage voter registration.
In Orlando, members of a nonprofit organization visited the school to register 58 Future Professionals. “The buzz after they left was so incredible,” said Admissions Leader Sara Seber. “This raised awareness and struck up many conversations about the issues on the table right now. For some, it was their very first time to register; others simply needed to update their addresses. Whatever the case, it opened all of their minds and gave them what they needed to be proactive: a voice.”
At the Lab, the voter registration drive was part of a Sprit Day event led by Student Council. Future Professionals wore red, white, and blue, and speakers shared stories about the right to vote. Two laptops were available to register voters at www.rockthevote.com. “Prior to the event we got stickers, buttons, and posters from the Rock the Vote Web site,” said School Owner Sasha Rash. “Later in the week we had a companywide soiree (school and salons) and repeated the whole process for salon employees and guests.”
In Provo, Future Professionals joined forces with Brigham Young University’s weeklong “Get Out the Vote” campaign. The university provided free sports drinks and popcorn, and 47 Future Professionals passed out thousands of flyers and gave 357 haircuts in three hours. The story made the front page of the BYU Daily Universe.
