MAGIC HEAD COACH STAN VAN GUNDY TO PROVIDE FOOD FOR COALITION RESIDENTS
by Paul Mitchell Schools on 11/30/2007On Thursday, November 22, head coach Stan Van Gundy and the Orlando Magic organization will bring food for over 600 Coalition residents at the Coalition for the Homeless in downtown Orlando. Magic Community Ambassador Nick Anderson will also be on hand at the event which starts at 8 AM.
The Orlando Magic will host a special carnival for the children from 9:00 - 11:00 AM. The festivities will include STUFF the Magic mascot, Magic Dancers, moonbounce, pop-a-shot, face painting, balloon animals, cookie decorating, arts/crafts and 102 JAMZ. Paul Mitchell The School will provide free haircuts and mini-facials to the men and women.
The Coalition for the Homeless is the largest provider of homeless services in Central Florida. The nonprofit organization works to address the needs of the homeless in the community and serves as a catalyst for community collaboration to end homelessness by offering comprehensive case management programs to help the homeless become self-sufficient.
Orlando's NBA franchise since 1989, the Magic annually gives more than $2 million to the local community by way of sponsorships of events, donated tickets, autographed merchandise, scholarships and grants. Orlando Magic community relations programming impacts an estimated 75,000 kids annually. Over the last 18 years, more than $13 million has been distributed to local nonprofit community organizations via The Orlando Magic Youth Foundation. OMYF, a fund of the Robert R. McCormick Tribune Foundation, focuses on helping every child in Central Florida realize their full potential, especially those most at risk, by supporting programs and partnerships that empower families and change lives. Through NBA CARES, the league, players and teams will raise and contribute $100 million for charity, donate more than 1 million hours of hands-on volunteer service to communities worldwide, and build more than 100 places where kids can learn and play over the next five years.
