(June 26, 2018) – CosmoProf and the Beauty Changes Lives Foundation announced the winners of their Spring 2018 CosmoProf “Licensed to Create” scholarships. Five inspiring students were selected, based on personal video submissions describing how a career in beauty will change their lives or the lives of others.
Cheronna Towns, a Future Professional at Paul Mitchell The School Sherman Oaks, received a $5,000 scholarship for her inspiring entry.
The Scripture from the Bible’s book of Isaiah that reads, “Beauty for ashes” has a deeply personal meaning for Cheronna, whose life was forever altered in a 2014 house fire that claimed the lives of her two young sons and severely disabled her husband as he desperately tried to save them. Despite that devastating event, Cheronna found hope to pursue a new calling.
“I want to help others open their eyes, but more important their hearts, to the beauty within them,” Cheronna says. “Everyone has been through something, and beauty filled me up all over again. My purpose is to fill others up through my career in beauty.”
Watch Cheronna's touching story of perseverance and courage, as described in her scholarship video submission:
“I was driving to school when I received the email about winning,” Cheronna says. “I had to pull over because I couldn’t see, due to my tears of joy. I am so thankful and grateful!”
Cheronna admits that the tough part was finding the courage to talk about her situation, but she realized that her story “needed to be heard and the opportunity to share it couldn't have come at a better time.”
“Never be afraid to share your story,” Cheronna says. “Sometimes we go through things in life in order to relate to others. Your trials can be your triumph as well as hope for others in their dark times.”
