I have been a licensed educator since 2009. I served as the director/lead instructor from 2009-2012 at a local cosmetology school, and was also a state board instructor at Virginia College from 2012-2015.

 

Experience in the beauty industry…

I have been in the beauty industry since 1986. I worked as a stylist/manager from 1986-1995. I also was a salon owner from 1995-2009.

 

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My mother is my mentor because she taught me to never give up no matter what life throws at you. She taught me to be the best I could be without the fear of judgement or failure. But most of all she taught me love, compassion, enthusiasm, and empathy.

I have been a salon educator with Nioxin Hair Systems from 2004-2008. In 2009, I became an instructor with Paul Mitchell The School Columbia.

 

Experience in the beauty industry…

I started in the beauty industry in 1997. I spent 2001-2003 being a platform stylist for Shoeneman Beauty Company. I am currently a stylist at Sharper Image Hair Salon in Columbia, SC.

 

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My mother. She was a stylist/makeup artist and gave me all my talents. She pushed me to be the best.

 

My favorite thing about working as Paul Mitchell The School Columbia is…

Being able to share what I know with future stylists.

I have over 40 years of experience teaching, working, and directing in salons and cosmetology schools in South Carolina.

Eva Harris, a neighborhood beautician.

Making sure students understand each procedure that is taught in Final Phase.

I became a licensed instructor in 2010. I started teaching at Paul Mitchell in 2013.

I’ve been in the beauty industry for 22 years.

 

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My aunt Francia Brown. She has been a hair stylist for over 65 years. She has also been a licensed instructor in the cosmetology industry for over 25 years.

 

My favorite thing about working as Paul Mitchell The School Columbia is…

I love my team. The school’s culture is above and beyond any other. When the students graduate from Paul Mitchell they are salon-ready!

Having confidence in who you are!

Susan Robinson

Educational Leader

Experience in education…

I am a level 4 colorist with Paul Mitchell The School Columbia, certified in hair extensions through Academy Pro Hair, a certified and licensed nail instructor with OPI, certified in Keratin straightening treatments through Basic’s and Bio-Ionic Systems, a certified waxing and threading specialist with the NC board of Cosmetic Arts CE, and certified in advanced Makeup Blending/Mixing application and techniques by Motives Makeup.

 

Experience in the beauty industry…

I have been a licensed cosmetologist and have owned and operated four salons in the past 27 years. I have been an instructor/Learning Leader for 18 years and am currently the education leader for Paul Mitchell The School Columbia.

 

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My husband is my mentor because he is my number one fan. He helps me believe there is no task too complicated to conquer. Secondly, I am inspired by Aubrey Harley, who amazes me with his talent and knowledge. Finally, Mike Helms, who gave me the courage to endure.

Experience in education…

I graduated from Paul Mitchell The School Columbia in 2013 and soon began working for the school after graduation. I currently have three years of experience working in the education department here.

 

Experience in the beauty industry…

I am a studying trichologist, a desairologist, a session stylist for editorials and weddings, and a full-time stylist. For the past three years, I have been immensely involved in the annual Fashion Week Production, serving as director of Columbia’s Fashion Week in 2014 and as the hair lead at New York Fashion Week in 2015.

 

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

I am my mentor because I will never give up! Cosmetology being my third career, I look for even more opportunities to be better than I was yesterday. I have learned that the greatest inspiration anyone can have is their own internal drive and motivation, which grows their faith and confidence in their own abilities.

The energy and connections while the whole school is together for our morning "pow wow" sessions. I love learning from the students and being a part of their discussions!
