Experience in education…

I have a undergraduate degree in International Business Administration and a graduate degree in Strategic Planning and Management.  I found my love for education while being a teacher assistant in graduate school. I started my professional career as a Strategic Planner for the Department of Defense working as a motivational speaker and trained trainers to lead team building workshops. I worked as the Director of Business Development for seven years and moved to the Paul Mitchell Organization to start the Paul Mitchell in San Diego. I love my current position as Co-Director of the Paul Mitchell School in Costa Mesa. In the last year I was able to obtain my National Yoga Teacher Certification and my Perfect Health/Meditation Teacher Certification from the Chopra University. This has given me the perfect blend of wellness and business skills to motivate, guide, and lead our team and Future Professionals to success.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

As a stylist/educator it is Stephanie Kocielski. She is not only a top notch stylist, but she also has a passion for excellence and pushes everyone into the ‘uncomfortable zone’ to be the best they can be.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School Costa Mesa is…

Our culture, one size fits all. I’ve personally seen Future Professionals who came into this school insecure and unsure of themselves. We accept them for who they are and praise them for their talents, and then you see a different, confident Future Professional leave this building.

To me, living beautifully means…

I believe it’s an attitude. I think that if you live every day trying to see the beauty in everyone it changes the way you see people.

Lucy Doughty.  She was my Learning Leader when I started school and the things that she has done with her career are incredible.  She is so amazing at styling hair and of course coloring.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School Costa Mesa is…

Getting to be a part of the Paul Mitchell family and inspiring our Future Professionals to find passion in this industry.

To me, living beautifully means…

Living a full, selfless life while giving back to others.

Kenda Woodward

Experience in education…

I began my career in education in 2000 as a Market Trainer at JC Penney Salon. That was my introduction to Paul Mitchell systems. In 2010, I became a Learning Leader, Future Professional Advisor, and then a Theory Specialist at Paul Mitchell The School Costa Mesa before becoming a Co-Director in 2013.

Experience in the beauty Industry…

I have been working in the beauty industry since I graduated from Golden West College Cosmetology School in 1990.  I started working as a professional hair stylist in 1990 at a family-owned salon called Genesis in Anaheim. I worked there until 2000 when I went to work at a salon in the JC Penney store in Westminster.  I was a hair stylist and trainer at JC Penney until 2007.  That year JC Penney and Paul Mitchell briefly partnered in a new concept salon and I became the Salon Manager at the Paul Mitchell Signature Salon in the JC Penney store in Santa Ana.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My professional mentor is Joyce Lore, my first boss in the salon industry. She inspired me to embrace the creativity of color and pushed me to continue my education and training.  My mom, Willa Dean Smith, was my personal mentor.  Mom taught me the importance of style and professionalism in business, and how to have patience and positive thinking in all aspects of life.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School Costa Mesa is…

Inspiring and motivating Future Professionals and team members!

To me, living beautifully means…

Having balance between work and home, striving for success, and maintaining a joyful outlook everywhere!
