Striking a balance between work, play, home life, and education is not a new concept for the many future professionals, students, and new high school graduates out there. In fact, here at Hair Expressions, one of the things that we’ve learned in our years of education is that the beauty industry is one that often attracts the type of person that the traditional college experience doesn’t work for.
While this is not always the case, we get a lot of students through our doors that are single parents, have to carry full time jobs, or hold other commitments that they need to tailor their educational or professional endeavors around. This is because cosmetology can be a wonderful career and educational choice for the person that’s used to doing a lot of juggling in their schedule. Why, you ask?
Cosmetology school, like many other trade based educational programs, can be the perfect fit for someone with an erratic schedule. Not only does it tend to take significantly less time than undergraduate degrees do (the licensing requirement is 1500 hours in Maryland), many institutions offer flexible scheduling. For example, we offer 3-day, evening, and daytime courses to our students to allow maximum flexibility for their various lifestyles and routines.
It’s a pretty safe bet that once you’re finally finished with school, many of the responsibilities you have aren’t going to just disappear. Whether it’s kids, a hobby or passion project, or another job you might be holding as you transition into a new career, your schedule isn’t going to magically free itself up.
We think one of the best things about cosmetology is the ability it can give you to set your own schedule, be your own boss, or free yourself from the confines of the 9-5 (or any other schedule that just doesn’t work for you).
Many graduates can go on to be freelancers, own their own salon, or rent out a booth in a local spa or salon, and all of these opportunities can come with the added benefit of independence with time management.
Cosmetology programs attract the creative types, more often than not; it’s just as much an art form and creative outlet as anything else! Now, despite the flexibility that cosmetology can give you, no one is saying it won’t require some serious effort. With that in mind, however, it’s easy to make those sacrifices when you’re doing something you love.
Creative, passionate students are in no short supply on the floor of our student salon, and we like to think it’s less of a chore to juggle a busy schedule when you’re loving what you’re doing, what you’re learning, and who you’re learning with!
That might be true, but we like to think our schedules and programs can be the perfect fit for just about anyone with the right attitude and motivation! We know you’re busy, but we’d love to schedule a tour with you to show you why we love the beauty industry, and why it might be a great fit for you!
