Paul Mitchell The School In Costa Mesa
Team

Meet some of the Learning Leaders and team members who make Paul Mitchell The School Costa Mesa so special.

Cynthia Sandoval

Learning Leader, Paul Mitchell The School San Diego graduate

Experience in education…

I have proudly worked as a Learning Leader since 2012 at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego. I love my Future Professionals.

Experience in the beauty industry…

I graduated from Paul Mitchell The School San Diego in 2006 and have been behind the chair ever since. I have been honored to style in New York Fashion Week and various other styling events throughout the country. I continue to see my beautiful clients, though I am equally committed to our students’ success.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

Jack Bayne taught me everything I ever wanted to know about cutting, and he also taught me patience when teaching. Everyone learns at a different pace and as educators we have to let that pace unfold as beautifully as it’s meant to.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego is…

Watching my Future Professionals grow. It’s amazing to see how my first students have grown in the industry. I get emotional every time someone graduates because they are such special people who care about being their best! And to watch them become their best is the most fulfilling experience of my career.

To me, living beautifully means…

Comfortably living in your own skin while empowering others to do the same.

Natalie Formanek

Learning Leader, Paul Mitchell The School San Diego graduate

Experience in education…

I graduated from Paul Mitchell The School San Diego in 2005 and have since trained with Aveda, Davines, and Redken Color. Coming back to Paul Mitchell was such a full circle moment for me: I’m home here.

Experience in the beauty industry…

I am licensed in both California and Arizona; I have been behind the chair in both states for over 10 years. Most of my experience took place behind the chair in salon reality: cutting, color, texture, extensions, and bridal styling. I live for all of it.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

I have two different mentors. My cutting mentor is Emmanuel San Martin, Jr., my educator when I was in school. Watching him grow in the beauty industry has been such a pleasure; he is beyond talented. I want to bring that inspiration to my own students. Larisa Love inspires me with hair color. She does amazing color and breaks the rules, always creating something new and keeps me excited about color.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego is…

Seeing the Future Professionals grow from the start of their journey until graduation is by far the most rewarding experience of my career. They constantly inspire me to be the best hairstylist and creative spirit I can be: I am grateful to be surrounded by unique individuals every day while inspiring the beginning of their career.

To me, living beautifully means…

Following your dreams while dismissing fear; finding your passion and sharing that with others as much as you can. Learning, growing, sharing, and repeating: that is living beautifully.

Pamela Heal

Social Media Specialist, Paul Mitchell The School San Diego graduate

Experience in education…

I graduated from the program in April of 2016 and began working with the school a month later. My experience as a Future Professional completely changed my life. I gave every fiber of my being to my education, which allowed me to craft a new career as a writing stylist. I’m passionate about sharing the professional knowledge I have with students in how to craft their future by coupling their work ethic with their specific passions. If you can dream it, you can do it. I’m proof of that.

Experience in the beauty industry…

I began working as a reservationist and later a salon manager while I was still in the Navy. What I thought would be a fun second job turned into the passion of my life. I fell in love with the process of breathing life into a client from the moment they walk in the door to the moment they leave, feeling fabulous and empowered. After five years of working behind the desk, I left my position managing a salon in New York City to attend Paul Mitchell The School San Diego. It was the best decision I ever made.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

Kris Miclat, admissions leader and the very first person who ever told me I could do this, remains as the most constant voice of people telling me I can do this. She’s an almost daily reminder that my words, whether written, spoken, or silent, have the power to touch everyone, so I better make them good. Overall, she’s taught me that passion without purpose is a waste of potential.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego is…

No matter where you come from, no matter what journey has led you through our doors, we embrace you, so long as you’re willing to learn, you’re willing to be kind, and you’re willing to show everyone what makes them uniquely beautiful. Sometimes we are able to reveal to people the beauty inside them that they’ve never known before. It is the most magical of places.

To me, living beautifully means…

Putting love into everything that you do.

Lesley Dedicatoria

Admissions Leader

Experience in the beauty industry…

Working in both salons and Paul Mitchell The School, I have 16 years' experience altogether. I love every moment of it!

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My family and most especially my son, Ezra.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego is…

New experiences, constantly learning and meeting new people. It’s always a positive, inspiring, fun-loving atmosphere!

To me, living beautifully means…

To be yourself and embrace who you are. Pretty is what pretty does!

Winna Amphonrojnanan

Learning Leader

Experience in the beauty industry…

I’ve been very blessed to have had incredible mentors in my career. They’ve led me to have worked under the Rex & Celestine Agency, which has allowed me to style hair for music videos, commercial ads, and editorial spreads in multiple magazines such as Inside Weddings, Fantastics, Xiox Magazine, and Lucy Magazine. Along with being published, I have worked my fair share of Los Angeles Fashion Week, San Diego Fashion Week, Private Designer shows, and both public and private Neiman Marcus Fashion shows.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My parents play a huge part in my goal-driven personality. They're an everyday reminder to work hard, stay humble, and to always follow your passion.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego is…

Every day I get to share my experience and my personal story to inspire others.  How lucky is that? As a Learning Leader we get to guide the Future Professionals and touch lives on a daily basis.

To me, living beautifully means…

Happiness! There’s nothing more beautiful than a happy heart.

Jessica Hoover

Service Desk Coordinator, Paul Mitchell School graduate

Experience in education…

I fell in love with the Paul Mitchell culture as a service desk leader at Paul Mitchell The School Santa Barbara—so much so that I enrolled as a night school Future Professional.

Experience in the beauty industry…

I’ve been with Paul Mitchell for close to two years. I fell in love with not the superficial aspect of beauty, but how it makes people feel. I love working with people who embrace everyone, no matter what kind of hair they have or where they’ve walked in life. That’s the beauty in the beauty industry: embracing and elevating others.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

Winn Claybaugh’s ability to mentor and inspire continues to challenge me to be better. As an employee, as an example, as a human, if I can touch even a fraction of those he has touched, I will consider myself wildly successful.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego is…

We are a family. This team has embraced me from the first day, and every day since then, I’ve seen the staff’s commitment to mentoring and fostering the growth of Future Professionals. I’m grateful to be a part of a team that educates so selflessly and loves so unconditionally.

To me, living beautifully means…

Offering a smile in even the most challenging of moments, especially if that smile is lifting others up. To me, that is true beauty: finding what can always light up a room.

Katie Graves

Co-Director

Experience in education…

I have proudly worked with Paul Mitchell The School San Diego since we opened our doors in 2004.

Experience in the beauty industry…

I started in the industry’s beauty trenches in 1998 as a salon reservationist and manager. While attending college, I landed a job with A Robert Cromeans Salon and began my career with Paul Mitchell. I knew then that I had found a company that believed in its employees’ skills and gifts as much as its own product. In 2004, I was elated to be a part of the team as Admissions Leader when Paul Mitchell The School San Diego opened its doors. Today, I’m still alive with gratitude and purpose for our students, as I have grown with the school as a co-director.

My mentor, or the person who has most inspired me is…

My mom: she has taught me how to be patient in the most challenging of moments. Patience is always our best asset in achieving our goals, and I hope I can share that gem with as many people as I can, as my mother’s lessons have ensured not only my career fulfillment, but a gratitude for the team that surrounds me.

My favorite thing about working at Paul Mitchell The School San Diego is…

It’s amazing to watch our Future Professionals grow into graduates and later successful stylists. Every time I see one of them achieve a major career milestone, my heart is fuller with purpose and gratitude that I can be a part of a team that’s created a foundation for their success; I can confidently say that our program has educated some of the best in the business and will continue to do so for years to come. To be able to foster growth in the beginning of their career means the world to me.

To me, living beautifully means…

Being your true self every day. Life is most beautiful when you have no regrets about the person you see in the mirror. Every day is a beautiful journey into loving that person more.

Being able to work with a group of people who inspire me each day.
