Take a moment to get to know some extraordinary Paul Mitchell The School Schenectady alumni.
Their stories speak to the power of dreaming big—and getting a great education.
My name's Meghan Behrent, I attended Paul Mitchell The School Schenectady and I work at Arrojo Studio in NYC as a color specialist. I grew up all over and spent my senior year of high school in Western Massachusetts. I had moments where I wanted to do hair after graduating but that was quickly changed after several peers/teachers talked me out of it because they told me "that's not a good direction to go in". I went away to school for Fashion merchandising and design, but I just couldn't get into it and I dropped out after my first year. School was never my thing. I then proceeded to work full time at an insurance company for two years and learned a desk job wasn't for me either. The idea of cosmetology started buzzing around my brain again. I started looking at schools but none of them got me excited. A few months later I found out about the new Paul Mitchell school over in upstate New York. I took a trip over with my parents that day and was floored with excitement. The school was beautiful and everyone was so nice. I quickly applied and moved over to Schenectady where I began the rest of my life.
Paul Mitchell brought me out of my shell and taught me many life lessons along with hair skills, of course. The staff are amazing and I grew close with many of my fellow students. I remember wanting to be in phase 2 as quickly as possible. I was also involved in Be Nice or Else and Student Council.
I had no idea where I was going to work a few weeks before graduating, but I knew I wanted to move to the city. The weekend before graduating I set up interviews in countless amounts of salons and the day after graduating I moved down and started working. I was at Paul Labrecque Salon my first two years where I was the owners personal stylist assistant and worked backstage at New York Fashion Week shows and events. I made the switch downtown a little less than a year ago and I now work at Arrojo Studio where I am specializing in color and am loving everything about it. I wouldn't be where I am today without Paul Mitchell and I am thankful for the solid foundation I received at Paul Mitchell The School Schenectady.
