GRANTS
Grants and scholarships are often called "gift aid" because they are free money-financial aid that doesn't have to be repaid. Federal Pell Grants usually are awarded only to undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor's or a professional degree. Paul Mitchell Schools and other private or non-profit organizations also offer scholarships. Ask your school's admissions leader what is available.
SUBSIDIZED AND UNSUBSIDIZED LOANS
Subsidized and unsubsidized loans are federal student loans for eligible students to help cover the cost of higher education at a four-year college or university, community college, or trade, career, or technical school. The U.S. Department of Education offers eligible students at participating schools Direct Subsidized Loans and Direct Unsubsidized Loans. (Some people refer to those loans as Stafford Loans or Direct Stafford Loans.)
VETERANS ADMINISTRATION (VA)
VA administers a variety of benefits and services that provide financial and other forms of assistance to service members, veterans, their dependents and survivors.
Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is the first step toward getting
federal aid for college, career school, or graduate school. Completing and submitting the FAFSA is free, quick,
and gives you access to the largest source of financial aid for college or career school.
