Dominique Diaz

Hair stylist for FOX SPORTS

After graduating, I worked as an assistant in a salon in the Bay Area where I learned as much as possible for six months. I was then promoted onto the floor as a main stylist for another six months. Soon after, my department head asked if I was available for an interview to become a part of her team for the new network FOX SPORTS 1. My first job was working with Erin Andrews for Fox college football. Erin and I were a great fit, which led me to work with her for other events such as The Super bowl XLVIII, photoshoots, commercials, and other FOX events.

What do you do?

I am now one of the hair stylists for FOX SPORTS LIVE, as well as the MLB and FOX news updates. When I'm not at the studio, I'm in the salon assisting and learning as much as I can. For me, it's important to work in the salon as well. It keeps my skills up-to-date. I also am now a part of Cloutier Remix Agency apprenticeship program.

My advice to Future Professionals is…

Knowledge is everything. Always keep an open mind, never take anything personally in this business and always smile!

A lifetime of achievements crammed into merely six years of a professional career, Justin Thomas is quickly becoming one of the most iconic hairdressers of the modern world. Boasting a clientele in multiple U.S. cities and a logical, yet innovative approach to education and mechanics, his style and methods of teaching are a refreshing cleanser to the industry. He is often referred to as "The Prodigy" and has the accolades to earn him such a title.

My mentor is...

I give much credit to Masaki Inoue for opening my eyes, as I was his protege for three years. I attend motivational seminars and read books on entrepreneurship that have nothing to do with hair, yet help me understand more about business and interpersonal relationship builidng.

My greatest accomplishements are...

Being the youngest and newest sylist in the industry to be asked to lead a master class at the IBS New York and Las Vegas hair shows. Writing a curriculum for efficiency that is taught to Sport Clips employees around the United States. Styling for New York Fashion Week. Having the opportunity to cut and style hair for various recording artists and celebrities.

The best advice I have ever received was...

Work as if someone else is viciously trying to take it away from you.

What I loved most about working at Paul Mitchell The School at MTI College in Sacramento was…

The culture and advanced education was emphatic.

My advice to Future Professionals is...

Take school seriously. The amount of other students and potential stylists is vast and unyielding. Employability is directly related to your work ethic, networking and fine education, and fine education can be defined by the learner's ability to adapt to the teacher.
